In a sign of good things to come for music lovers, Record Store Day has announced their RSD Drops for 2021! On June 12 and July 17, participating independent record stores around the world will stock up with exclusive rarities and new pressings of old favorites. This year's got a long list of cool titles, but if you love the '80s as much as we do, you won't want to miss these eight throwback releases.
Available June 12
Black Sabbath's Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules, recently expanded on CD with bonus material, will receive special picture disc pressings. So will The Cure's third album Faith, which turns 40 this year. If you love The Replacements, you'll love The Pleasure's All Yours, which includes outtakes issued on their Pleased to Meet Me box set from 2020. Def Leppard will be releasing Live in Oxford on vinyl, a rare recording of a show from 1980, while Tears for Fears will issue Live At Massey Hall, a concert recorded in 1985 to support Songs from the Big Chair. And Kenny Loggins, the king of the '80s movie soundtrack, will release At the Movies, a special vinyl collection of his themes to Footloose, Top Gun, Caddyshack and others - plus a special new version of fan favorite "Playing with the Boys."
Available July 17
There's only two big '80s-style releases on the second RSD Drop, but they're big ones - and both unreleased. A never-before-heard concert from the Ramones will be released on LP as Triple J Live at the Wireless Capitol Theatre, Sydney, Australia, July 8, 1980, featuring several songs the punk icons would never put in their set lists again. And for fans of The Sisters of Mercy, BBC Sessions will feature three sides of British radio recordings by the Goth rockers from 1982, 1983 and 1984.
