Freddie Mercury and the band Queen are being honored with a new line of official stamps issued by the Royal Mail. They join just the Beatles (2007) and Pink Floyd (2016) as bands commemorated with postage stamps in the UK.
The stamps will come in sets of 13, featuring eight album covers--Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, News of the World, The Game, Greatest Hits, The Works, and Innuendo--four live concert shots and one classic band photo. They will be available for purchase on July 9.
"Wow...stamps featuring our albums! What an honor," Queen drummer Roger Taylor raved in a press release. "We must be really part of the furniture now! Thanks Royal Mail for stamping on us! In gratitude."
"It's hard to put into words what I feel when looking at these beautiful stamps," added guitarist Brian May. "Sometimes it's strange to wake up and realize the position in which we are now held -- we have become a national institution! And nothing brings this home more than this incredible tribute from Royal Mail."
The full 13-stamp set, available in a "Presentation Pack," costs 16 pounds, or about $20. You can pre-order the stamps here.
