Promises are a funny thing. So are Mötley Crüe fans. The two have been on a collision course ever since the legendary L.A. metal band announced they were reuniting for a massive stadium tour next year.

Hardcore fans of the band have pulled out a 2014 interview with Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars with rock journalist Eddie Trunk on The Metal Show where Mars insisted that the band's "final" tour really was the last time the band would go on the road. When the idea came up the maybe the Crüe would someday tour again, Mars stepped up and made a very bold claim: "If that happens, I'll invite the whole world for free." Whoops, Mick.
Now that Mötley Crüe has literally blown up their "Cessation of Touring" agreement, fans of the band from around the world have been calling Mars on his promise of free tickets when the group hits the road next year. Needless to say, it's not going to happen.
"While I was clearly joking about free tickets that night on TMS, I was also deeply convinced that we would never ever be touring again," Mars has responded via Instagram. "I would have never expected to be facing a whole new generation of fans demanding to see us play. In fact, touring with Motley Crue comes at a weird place in time, since my solo record is almost complete after such a long time of writing and recording. But I put our fans first. Anyways, I am eating a lot of crow and humble pie this Thanksgiving for those remarks and accept that some of you see this as me being dishonest. I said what I said, and I was wrong. Peace."
The guitarist does have a point. At the time of The Metal Show interview, Netflix doc The Dirt didn't exist. The renewed interest in Mötley Crüe from a younger wave of fans who are just now discovering the band via the movie are credited with sparking the tour.
Now about those free tickets...
