Florian Schneider, legendary co-founder of groundbreaking band Kraftwerk, has died at the age of 73 after battling cancer.
Kraftwerk co-founder Ralf Hรผtter confirmed the passing with a statement sharing "the very sad news that his friend and companion over many decades Florian Schneider has passed away from a short cancer disease just a few days after his 73rd birthday." It has also been revealed that Schneider was laid to rest in a private ceremony.
Formed in 1970, Kraftwerk was famous for the group's innovative use of electronics, creating classic albums including Trans-Europe Express and Computer World that would pave the way for a panorama of artists and sounds that would follow in their wake. Everything from hip-hop to EDM has been profoundly affected and influenced by the music of Kraftwerk.
Tributes to the fallen artist are flooding social media, with musicians, labels and contemporaries remember his vast contributions to the world.
